Oro 1889 is a concept restaurant aiming to serve a diners a slice of true Southern Italian hospitality in the form of a family run setting – we are not a fine-dining experience, we are not for all and prepare to endure a bit of a wait as all your food is made to order.
Coming from a line of chefs and great cooks, pizzaiolo and owner, Nishan Punzi moved to Sri-Lanka with his wife, Thilini in 2013 to set up a restaurant that served food unique to his region, Campania. With pizza taking the forefront, he wanted to provide Sri-Lankans the opportunity to taste a real Neapolitan pizza as well as his grandmother’s desserts – varying from zeppole to tiramisu.
After travelling around the world to scout for inspiration to built their dream eatery, they found their ideal location in Colombo, Sri-Lanka and built Oro 1889. The entire restaurant was designed and executed by Thilini and Nishan and has been made using recycled or reclaimed material from both Italy and Sri-Lanka.
